A letter from a client The effects of AT on psoriasis

"I feel I should write a letter about the effects of autogenic training on my psoriasis, as I am quite certain that it has played a key part in my dramatic improvement.

As you know, I have tried for nearly 30 years to find some relief, and my quest has taken me not only to my GP, but to St John's Hospital for Diseases of the Skin, where I was first diagnosed, to Harley Street, and to various places of healing including Lourdes. In short, I was prepared to try anything and had pretty well done so. I spent almost a year under the direction of a herbalist, during which time I was treated with a plethora of oils, herbal remedies, herbal and saline baths and a very strict diet, and experienced absolutely no improvement whatsoever.

To give a brief description of the improvement to my skin let me give you a “before and after”.

My legs were affected from the ankles, and badly on the knees and thighs, and the rash continued over the whole trunk as far as the breast, and was beginning to appear in isolated patches on my chest and shoulders. My arms were affected by spots with not more than an inch of clear skin between them and the elbows badly scaled. My face was clear, but the scaling was present on my scalp, particularly behind the ears and just above the hairline at the back, causing itching and a heavy fall of “dandruff".

I began the autogenic training in May 1989 and from July my skin has been almost totally clear except for a couple of areas, and even they are much improved and far less sore, and itchy than they were. I have slept better and had no bleeding for many weeks. The latest improvement (September 1989) is that my scalp has cleared up completely, to such an extent that I am now able to wear black and navy blue - which was previously unthinkable!

I have found that the autogenic training has reduced stress to a great degree in my life. I am able to take life a great deal more calmly and have gained confidence in many activities I previously found stressful. This has also been remarked upon by others Including my husband and my employer.

Not surprisingly I was suffering from considerable disappointment and “treatment fatigue” and had very little faith that anything could help me. However, my more relaxed outlook coupled with the dramatic improvement in my skin condition has given me a far more positive approach to treatment and a hope and optimism I have not felt in many years. Many thanks for all you and the treatment have done for me. My rather nasty description of my previous condition will tell you what a huge difference it has made to my life.”
